Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering & Production

How long does production take?
Every blade is forged to order. We offer three production tiers: {{LABEL_STANDARD}} ({{DAYS_STANDARD}} business days, free), {{LABEL_PRIORITY}} ({{DAYS_PRIORITY}} business days, +{{PRICE_PRIORITY}}), and {{LABEL_RUSH}} ({{DAYS_RUSH}} business days, +{{PRICE_RUSH}}).
Why does it take {{DAYS_STANDARD}} days?
We do not carry mass-produced inventory. Each piece is meticulously forged, heat-treated, assembled, and sharpened by hand upon order confirmation to ensure premium quality.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Yes, provided that production has not yet begun. Please contact us as soon as possible after placing your order to request any changes or cancellations.

Shipping

How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is absolutely free on every order, worldwide.
Which carriers do you use?
We utilize DHL, FedEx, and USPS, selected dynamically based on your destination for the most reliable delivery.
When will I receive tracking information?
An automated tracking number will be emailed to you as soon as your order has finished production and is securely packaged for dispatch. Tracking is not available during the active forging phase.
Will I have to pay customs duties?

HandForgedWork LLC pays the import duties, customs fees and border taxes on deliveries to the United States, Europe and Australia. For those destinations the price you pay at checkout is the final price, and no separate customs bill will reach you.

For every other destination, import duties and taxes are the customer’s responsibility. They are not included in the checkout price, and the carrier will collect them from you before or on delivery. The amount is set by your own country’s customs authority rather than by us, so check your local rate before you order.

Where do you ship to?
We ship worldwide. Carrier transit time is additional to the production time and varies with your location.

Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of receipt. The item must be entirely unused, strictly unsharpened, and returned in its original packaging.
Can I return a custom or engraved knife?
No. Because custom and specifically engraved pieces are meticulously created to your personal specifications, they represent a final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
Do your blades have a warranty?
Yes. We offer a robust lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects exclusively for the original owner. Our resolution for confirmed structural flaws is a full replacement, rather than a repair.

Services

Do you offer a sharpening service?
No, we do not currently offer a mail-in sharpening service for previously purchased blades.
Do you offer gift wrapping?
No, we do not offer designated gift wrapping. However, all our blades ship securely in premium presentation-ready packaging.
Can I get my knife engraved?
Yes, custom engraving and deep personalisation are readily available directly through our interactive Custom Knife Builder.

Care & Maintenance

Cleaning & Storage
Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap. Never place a high-carbon or Damascus steel blade in a dishwasher. Dry immediately with a soft cloth. Store in a dry environment, ideally out of the leather sheath for long-term storage to prevent moisture retention.
Oiling the Blade
High-carbon steels will naturally patina over time, which adds character and protection. To prevent rust, apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or camellia oil after every use. For wood handles, occasional treatment with beeswax or boiled linseed oil will preserve the lustre.
Sharpening
Maintain the edge between uses with a ceramic honing rod. When it is time to sharpen, we recommend Japanese water stones (1000/3000 grit) maintained at a 15-20 degree angle per side. Avoid pull-through carbide sharpeners, as they remove too much steel and can chip the hard edge.
