About This Knife

Named after one of the smallest birds in the forest, The Obsidian Wren is a compact everyday carry knife that you can always keep within reach. It is hand-forged from layered carbon Damascus steel, and every blade shows its own flowing pattern, so no two knives look exactly alike.

The blade has a rounded, drop-style profile with jimping on the spine that gives your thumb a secure grip during detail work. The handle is made of grey pakka wood with carved grip dimples for traction, even with wet or cold hands. It is finished with a decorative mosaic pin and a brass-lined lanyard hole.

The knife comes with a handmade black leather neck sheath with tooled edge detailing and a snap strap that locks the handle in place. A neck cord is included, so you can wear it around your neck, clip it into a pack, or keep it in a pocket.

It is a good fit for camping, hiking, bushcraft, opening packages, cutting cord and small everyday tasks. It also makes a distinctive gift for knife collectors.

Care Instructions:
Carbon Damascus steel is a high-carbon steel, not stainless. It needs regular care to stay rust-free.

  • Wipe the blade clean and dry immediately after every use.
  • Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or knife oil to the blade regularly, and always before storage.
  • Never put the knife in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water.
  • Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath for long periods, because leather holds moisture and can cause rust. Store it in a dry place.
  • Avoid contact with acidic foods, salt water and sweat for long periods. Clean the blade soon after such contact.
  • Over time, the steel may develop a darker patina. This is a natural characteristic of carbon steel and not a defect.
  • Wipe the pakka wood handle with a dry cloth. A little oil occasionally keeps it looking fresh.

Important: Rust or corrosion caused by improper care, moisture or storage is not covered by our return policy or warranty. Please follow the care instructions above to keep your knife in top condition.

Care & Maintenance

Cleaning & Storage
Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap. Never place a high-carbon or Damascus steel blade in a dishwasher. Dry immediately with a soft cloth. Store in a dry environment, ideally out of the leather sheath for long-term storage to prevent moisture retention.
Oiling the Blade
High-carbon steels will naturally patina over time, which adds character and protection. To prevent rust, apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or camellia oil after every use. For wood handles, occasional treatment with beeswax or boiled linseed oil will preserve the lustre.
Sharpening
Maintain the edge between uses with a ceramic honing rod. When it is time to sharpen, we recommend Japanese water stones (1000/3000 grit) maintained at a 15-20 degree angle per side. Avoid pull-through carbide sharpeners, as they remove too much steel and can chip the hard edge.
