A full-size Viking sword built the way the originals were: a broad, straight, double-edged blade with a central fuller running most of its length, a heavy crossguard, and a weighted pommel that brings the balance back into the hand. At 38" overall it has real presence — this is a display and collector's piece with the proportions of a working sword, not a wall-hanger with a decorative blade.
The blade is 1095 high carbon steel, hand-forged, ground and polished to a bright mirror finish. A line of runic characters is etched down the length of the fuller on both sides. The fuller isn't decoration — it removes weight from the centre of the blade without giving up stiffness, which is why every Viking-age sword has one.
The guard and pommel are steel, hand-etched with a geometric chevron pattern that catches the light from any angle. Between them the grip is rosewood, wrapped tightly in leather — deep red at the guard, black at the pommel — for a firm, non-slip hold that doesn't shift under weight.
The scabbard is built the traditional way: a wood core wrapped in hard leather, hand-tooled with flowing scrollwork and finished with black leather throat and chape fittings, stitched and riveted. A leather baldric strap is included for carry or display.
Custom engraving: the tooling shown here is our standard pattern. You can keep it as it is, or have your own name, word, date or runic inscription tooled into the scabbard panel instead. Select your preference at checkout and we'll confirm the layout with you before work begins.
Each sword is made one at a time by hand. Small variations in polish, etching and leather tone are part of a handmade piece.
Care: 1095 is carbon steel — it will rust if left wet or neglected. Wipe the blade down after handling and keep a light coat of oil on it, especially before storage. Don't store the sword inside the leather scabbard long-term; leather holds moisture against steel. Keep the scabbard away from heat and treat it with leather conditioner once or twice a year.
