Warranty

Every piece we sell carries a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, for as long as you own it.

This isn't a marketing line. If a blade we made fails because of how we made it, we fix it or replace it — however many years later that is.

What's covered

  • Blade cracking, chipping or breaking under normal use
  • Heat treatment failure — a blade that won't hold an edge as it should
  • Handle scales loosening, splitting or coming away
  • Pins, bolsters or fittings working loose
  • Stitching failure on a sheath we made
  • Any flaw in materials or workmanship that shows up in normal use

If something we built comes apart, that's ours to answer for.

What isn't covered

  • Normal wear — a working knife develops scratches, patina and a shortening blade. That's use, not failure.
  • Rust from neglect. Carbon steel rusts if it's put away wet or stored damp. Our care guidance explains how to prevent it.
  • Damage from misuse — prying, throwing, chopping bone or metal with a knife not built for it, or using a blade as a screwdriver or chisel
  • Damage from a dishwasher. Never put a hand-forged knife in one.
  • Damage from resharpening, especially on powered grinders
  • Any piece that has been modified, reground, re-handled or worked on by someone else
  • Loss or theft
  • Ordinary ageing of leather — leather darkens, softens and marks with use

Repair or replacement — your choice

When we accept a claim, you decide:

Repair — we put the original piece right and return it to you. Best if the knife has history you'd rather keep.

Replacement — we forge you a new one. Because every piece is made by hand, a replacement will be as close as we can make it, not identical. If the model is no longer available, we'll offer the nearest current piece or a full refund.

Who's covered

The warranty covers the original purchaser, and we verify claims against the order in our records.

If you bought a piece as a gift, you can make a claim on behalf of the person you gave it to — just use the order it was bought under. If you buy one of our knives second-hand, the warranty doesn't carry over, but write to us anyway: we'd still rather see the piece fixed than thrown away, and we'll quote you fairly for the work.

Making a claim

Email [info@handforgedwork.com] with:

  • Your order number, or the email address you ordered with
  • Clear photos of the problem
  • A short description of what happened and how the piece was used

We reply within one business day, and we won't make you jump through hoops. If it's our fault, we'll say so.

Repairs outside the warranty

Broke it yourself? Tell us anyway. We'll repair almost anything we made — rehandling, regrinding, a new sheath, a full restoration — at a fair price, quoted before we start. We'd far rather bring a knife back to life than see it retired.

We also offer a sharpening service for pieces we've made.

Your legal rights

This warranty is given in addition to your rights under the consumer law of your own country, and does not limit them.
